Back to school

Hannah started school on Monday. 2nd grade to be exact. I’m still lost as to how it’s been THREE YEARS since she started Pre K.

She’s changed so much.

I also fear that this is the last year that I’ll be getting the 1st day of school picture of her. I had to fight her to stand there and look happy and let me take her picture. The past 3 years she was totally ok with this and posed so pretty. She grew up so much in the past year and things that were fun or cute to her before are now immature and for babies. Apparently letting your mother take a picture of you in your 1st day of school outfit is NOT cool. And so I took this picture with a heaviness in my heart because next year I’m sure I won’t be getting one. Or if I do I’m sure it’ll be a fake forced smile like this picture. I sometimes wish I could take a stand against my babies growing up. Between Livie turning 18 months and Hannah starting 2nd grade I’m feeling very nostalgic. And yet grateful because Hannah’s growing up to be a gorgeous, intelligent young woman and while I miss her being a baby sometimes, this version of her makes me proud. Sassy attitude and all.

Maybe next year she’ll be less pre-teen like. Or not.

Even I don’t want her to grow up so fast, and I’m not even her mom :) Tell her she has to keep posing for first day of school pictures until she’s in college!

Oh, I remember her long hair. Man, has she grown up! She sure is sassafrassy, isn’t she? And the first day of school pictures? Not taking one is NOT an option. They are required and useful for bribing when needed.

  • I should take pictures when T starts pre-k in a few weeks….or else I’ll miss it. I have a TON of photos of the first 6mo-1yr. A little less recently. I need to pick it up again. Adorable photos.

Maybe she’d let you take a picture of her at school with a couple friends. Or is that even less cool? Shows you what I know!

  • I love Hannah’s first day of school photos … and think it would be a travesty to lose them altogether. But, you know what I think would be hilarious? Letting her make the face that reflects how she feels that day … so, over the years, you’ll have all sorts of different first day of school photos. That way, you don’t have to lose the tradition and she gets to exude the person she feels like at that exact moment!

once she gets to be a teenager – she won’t STOP taking pictures of herself…and i KNOW she’ll be wanting you to take them of her…since you are SO SUPER talented…
she’ll be plastering them all over facebook before you know it…
    no worries!!
